Providing Midwifery Care in the Brazos Valley
Riley Dawson has been attending births and serving the Brazos Valley birth community since late 2015. Riley became a Birth Boot Camp Instructor in October 2015 and taught childbirth classes in the community until November 2020.
She started her training as a birth assistant at Jubilee Birth Center in November 2015. She then decided to start the Association of Texas Midwives Midwifery Training Program in May 2018. She completed the program in August 2021 and became a Texas Licensed Midwife in October 2021.
When not attending births, she enjoys homeschooling her children and coaching their hockey team.
Riley believes that pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding is a normal, physiological process. She believes that prenatal education should be in the forefront of midwifery care so that parents can make informed decisions regarding their care.
In the event of a low risk pregnancy and birth, a mother should be able to labor in the comfort of her home in the presence of skilled attendants.
After the birth of the baby, Riley believes that the golden hour is a priority and the mother and baby should have uninterrupted time together with vitals and weight checks being done on or near the mother.
Postpartum Care is another thing that Riley believes should be thorough and unrushed. She accomplishes this by offering 2 home visits in the first week and 2-3 more appointments in the first 6 weeks.
